No matter how bad we thought they were, they were actually much, much worse.
Here’s the part I still don’t understand: Why were they all so intent on attacking Iraq in particular? “Insanity” just doesn’t satify me, but it’s the only plausible answer I can come up with.

President Obama has done one of the handful of things that I considered absolutely mandatory for the president following Bush: The torture memos have been released and are available for the entire world to see.
We now know, with absolute, undeniable certainty, that high-ranking members of the previous adminstration authorized torture. They discussed, in horrifying detail, [...]

“Genitals”. “Sliced”. “Scalpel”. Three words you do not want to hear in reference to prisoners being held in your government’s custody.
They must be held accountable.

Today’s atrocity requires a full breakdown. This will get lengthy (ETA: As it turns out, I spent a good chunk of my day on it), so I’m going to stick it below the jump.

The first question of today’s press conference:
Thank you for those comments, Mr. President. Here’s a question. I’m wondering if you plan to ask Congress for the remaining $350 billion in bail money. And in terms of the timing, if you do that before you leave office, sir, are you motivated in part [...]

If I were Alberto Gonzales, I would spend my days quietly hoping that when the final history of the Bush administration is written, I will be nothing more than a forgotten footnote largely ignored in light of the more monstrous villains of the era. I would definitely not be running around reminding people of my [...]

It’s official (via).
The abuse of detainees in U.S. custody cannot simply be attributed to the actions of “a few bad apples” acting on their own. The fact is that senior officials in the United States government solicited information on how to use aggressive techniques, redefined the law to create the appearance of their legality, and [...]

Kevin Drum:
[W]ere we, in fact, better off losing in 2004? The downside was four more years of George Bush and Dick Cheney. That’s hardly to be minimized, especially since the upside is still not completely knowable. But for myself, I think I’m convinced. The cause of liberal change is better served by Obama in 2008 [...]

The Bush administration is trying to quietly redefine birth control as abortion and limit access to both with a few seemingly small and innocuous regulatory changes before they run out of time in office. Don’t let them do it.

You can’t make this up… NBC’s John Yang reports President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki have agreed that a new agreement setting the parameters for US-Iraqi relations after the current UN mandate expires at the end of the year should include non-binding language–”a general time horizon” and not “an arbitrary date”–about the [...]

We overthrew Saddam. North Korea is no longer a state sponsor of terrorism. The Axis of Evil has officially dwindled to a single Country of Evil. As soon as Bush lets fly with the bombs in Iran, the War on Terror will be won.
Suck on that, Bush-hating terrorist appeasers.
