Please Don’t Go Away

Why haven’t I said anything about the Palin resignation yet? Well, I’ve been in a state of mourning since Friday afternoon. I’ve been looking forward to the 2012 Palin for President campaign with just as much enthusiasm as I’ve been looking forward to the 2012 Avengers movie, and I’m absolutely horrified by the idea that she may have killed her own political career with this latest stunt. What could possibly have made the summer of ‘12 more entertaining than a Palin general election campaign? Nothing.
And, yes, Palin still might very well decide to run for the Republican nomination, but there’s no longer any way she’ll win it. A whole lot of Republican primary voters may be crazy and stupid, but they also like to win. A week ago, enough of those primary voters might have been able to talk themselves into thinking Palin could win a general election to allow her to make it through a three-person primary against Huckabee and Mittens. Now, I just don’t see it happening. There’s no doubt the Barracuda was always heading for an implosion of epic proportions, but my sincere hope was that it wouldn’t happen until roughly three years and three months from now.
Assuming I’m right about this, the only way to save my summer of 2012 is if The Avengers has a final running time of three to five months. Even then, they might have to cast Sarah Palin in the film- I could see her as the Scarlet Witch, maybe… especially if we’re talking about the recent “perpetual psychotic breakdown” version of the character.
