An alligator was found roaming the streets of Los Angeles. The two-foot menace was apprehended by police, who placed it in a trash can until Animal Control arrived.
A baby gazelle was born at the National Zoo! Both mother and baby are doing well, but are surpassed in cuteness by the three new cheetah cubs at the Cincinnati zoo. Meanwhile, Pingu the penguin, a new addition to the Living Coasts zoo in Devon, had to be isolated after a sibling started stealing Pingu’s food. Zookeepers gave the three-week-old chick a nice stuffed penguin friend; the two make quite the adorable pair.
The pygmy tarsier, a tiny carnivorous primate bearing a strong resemblance to a Furby, was rediscovered in Indonesia. The species had not been seen since the 1920s and was thought to be extinct.
Otter tracks were found on one of the Farne Islands, indicating that one has survived the “perilous” three-mile swim from Scotland to the island for the first time.
If a cat lives at the British Natural History Museum, and the Denver Nuggets are handing out kittens at games, why cannot I have a small feline companion?
Finally, scientists have filmed a whale shark pooping. An excited researcher described the giant poop as “scientific gold.” Watch the poop footage yourself at the above link. Thanks, BBC!
ETA: Sarah Palin pardoned a turkey for Thanksgiving. Then she gave a post-pardon interview while turkeys were being slaughtered in the background! She also proclaimed herself “friend to all creatures great and small.” Except the ones she shoots from helicopters, I suppose. Oh yeah, and women.
