I. The Civil War in 1864

II. World War I raging in Europe in 1916

III. The Great Depression in both 1932 and 19361

III. World War II in Europe and Asia in 1940 and again with the US fully participating in 1944

IV. The Korean War in 1952

V. The Vietnam War in 1964, 1968, and 1972

VI. The assassinations of RFK and MLK as well as the race riots in 1968

VII. Either of the two wars we were fighting four years ago in 2004

However, John McCain believes this campaign should be suspended because his buddies on Wall Street lost some money playing roulette.

  1. Maybe three times; I’m not sure whether 1940 counts as part of The Great Depression or not.
