The Implosion Of John McCain

Posted on September 3, 2008 by andrew

I was away for four days. I came back to see that John McCain’s campaign destroyed itself by making an absolutely disastrous choice of vice presidential nominee. Here’s what I’ve learned about Sarah Palin since I returned:

  1. Palin has less than two years’ experience as Alaska’s governor. Prior to that, she served as mayor of a town with roughly as many residents as there were students in my freshman class at the University of Maryland.
  2. She is a fundamentalist Christian zealot.
  3. She fired the head of Alaskan law enforcement when that official refused to fire a state police officer against whom Palin had a personal vendetta.
  4. She blatantly lied in her speech on Friday in which she claimed to oppose the “Bridge to Nowhere”, which she actually supported.
  5. She is a bad mother. I say that not because my beliefs regarding birth control and abortion conflict with hers, but because she willingly thrust her pregnant seventeen year-old daughter into the spotlight of the national media. Any good mother would have declined the nomination rather than subject her daughter- already in quite a difficult position- to such trauma.
  6. She has close ties to an Alaskan secessionist party of which her husband was a member in good standing.
  7. She was hardly vetted in any substantial way by the McCain campaign prior to being asked to join the ticket.
  8. And, as I only just learned, the things Sarah Palin has heard from the pulpit of her church ought to be significantly more disturbing to American Jews than the things Barack Obama heard from the pulpit of his church.

This is all quite unbelievable; I only wish I had more time to blog in the midst of my vacation. The election is over, my friends. Sarah Palin is not change you can believe in.

    You forgot
    9. Denies global warming, including fighting to take polar bears off the endangered species list and demanding that we drill in alaska because “it is alaska’s oil so they should be allowed to use it.”
