A brave rabbit saved its owners from a fire. In another kind of rescue, a golden retriever plays mom to three abandoned white tiger cubs. Finally, cats may relieve their owners of bad moods.

The National Park Service is considering closing the Reflecting Pool of Death.

The recession is rough on animals, too. A 44-pound cat was abandoned by his owner when her house was foreclosed upon. Sadly, he’s not alone. Another effect: animal theft appears to be on the rise. (The new owners of the million-dollar red cow had better beware.)

A labrador is running for mayor of Fairhope, Alabama.

Shrews drink beer!

The Montauk Monster: EEEK!!

Finally, four pandas were born in China this weekend. Where’s our new baby panda?!

UPDATE: How did I miss this?! The man arrested for growing marijuana plants in Rock Creek Park was found out by a turtle.  Animals sure are great.
