Quick Additional VP Thought

Posted on July 29, 2008 by andrew

Remember last week when the McCain camp intentionally let slip rumors of an impending VP announcement? The theory behind an impending pick went something like this: The second week of August features the Olympics, and by the time the Olympics are over, we’re almost into the Democratic convention. Then there’s hardly any time between the Dem convention and the GOP convention. So, if McCain wants to get a real bounce out of his pick and out of the convention, he has to make the VP pick public at least a few days before the Olympics start when he can still get some serious media attention focused on the VP choice and not much else.

Now, a week later, all of the attention is on the Democratic veepstakes and the possibility of Obama reaching a decision. Barring a major surprise before this week is out, John McCain is going to seriously risk competing with Obama’s choice when he makes his own announcement.

Once again, John McCain’s campaign isn’t very good at the whole campaigning part of things.
