Apropos Of Nothing In Particular…

Because I’ve been obsessing about stupid shit all day, allow me to throw this out there.
What, exactly, do Hillary Clinton’s remaining supporters believe will happen should she win the nomination now?
I keep reading in pro-Hillary areas of the intertubes angry denunciations of Barack Obama and his supporters, many of which include threats not to vote for Obama in November ranging from explicit promises to quiet implications. So, if you don’t mind me asking, what do you expect Barack Obama’s supporters to do should Hillary Clinton take the nomination after Obama has already won the pledged delegates (and that is a mathematical certainty at this point)?
Do you expect the young voters, who currently identify as Democrats by ridiculous margins and have supported Obama over Clinton by a significant majority, to maintain their recently acquired loyalty to the party should that same party take the nomination away from their preferred candidate? Do you expect African-Americans, the Democrats’ most stalwart constituency for half a century and Obama supporters by a massive 80% margin, to stand by the party after the only African-American in the country’s history with a genuine chance to win the White House has the nomination taken from him not by voters but by the party’s elite? Do you expect independents who came to believe in Obama’s message to grant the same support to another candidate simply because she belongs to the same party to which those independents share no loyalty? Do you expect any of Obama’s supporters, and among them are more than half of the participants in this year’s primaries and caucuses, to support Clinton with the same enthusiasm they have shown for Obama, including the enthusiasm that has made the latter into the most successful small-dollar fundraiser in political history? Do you honestly believe that the superdelegates with the power to make this decision should and will assign more significance to your anger and the fallout thereof than to the anger of Obama’s supporters and the fallout thereof?
Seriously, what do you people expect will happen?
Yes, you’re angry, and you have every right to share your displeasure. Blame Barack Obama, blame his campaign staff, blame his supporters, blame the media, blame me personally; I don’t particularly care so long as it all amounts to blowing off steam. Your anger no longer has any hope changing the outcome of the election except in John McCain’s favor, and I just want to make sure you all recognize this core truth.
