A Bit More Cause For Concern Than You’re Willing To Acknowledge

John Aravosis cites Ben Smith in telling us not to worry about Hillary’s big donors’ threats to cut off funding to Democrats should she lose:
Ben Smith makes an excellent point as to why the Democrats should emit a large yawn at childish threats from Hillary’s donors to boycott the fall congressional races if Herself isn’t handed the nomination:
The threat of money, at this point, makes little sense. The most powerful financial force in American politics right now — by very, very far — is the Barack Obama money spigot.
Hillary, the one who is now bankrupt, is threatening to take her nonexistent donors and go home? Ooh, scary.
I’d love to agree, since these threats really piss me off, but the analysis isn’t entirely accurate. “The most powerful financial force in American politics right now” is absolutely Barack Obama. However, Obama’s army of small donors have yet to show any proclivity or ability to raise large sums of money for the Democratic party’s various non-Obama candidates and organizations. Hillary has the proven sources of seemingly endless money for organizations like the Congressional Campaign Committee, and the party does need to be careful in calling the bluff of those sources.
All of which is pretty lousy, seeing as these donors are totally in the wrong in attempting to hold the party hostage.
