Things I Don’t Care About

I like the former VP nominee a lot. I like his wife just as much. But the Edwardses had their chance for a meaningful endorsement and they let it slip by them. Neither is a superdelegate, so if they wanted their opinions to matter, they should have spoken up before 90%1 of Democrats had already cast their votes.
The Edwardses should remain prominent in Democratic politics; a convention speech or even a cabinet post for John would be fantastic, and I certainly don’t want to lose Elizabeth’s outspokenness in the public battle for health care any time soon. I don’t even particularly mind if some North Carolinians will be influenced by an endorsement. I’m merely saying that, as for me, I no longer care whether the couple prefers Obama or Clinton, and I suspect most Democrats share my indifference.
- My extremely rough guess. I really don’t know what the actual number is, but 80% of states have voted and that 80% includes all of the most populous ones, so I assume we’re talking about 85-95% of voters. ↩
